Posted - 04/06/2006 : 11:50:07 Can someone please tell me how to difference between supermacro-3 version 3 and version 6? I managed to get hold onto a supermacro-3 but I do not know when it was built. Can some one please tell me how to identify the difference. So at least I know if i need to upgrade the compensation. Thank you in advance. |

I would suggest the 1000 mah cells, as they will last longer per charge.
You can then leave the charger plugged in continuously.

Posted - 03/27/2006 : 01:08:10 I just wanted to say a big thanks to Dr Xin.
My amp had a problem and he not only made the repair very quickly but refused to accept my offer for payment for global express mail to Switzerland. Very nice service and a pleasure to do business with.
The amp sound for those who don't have one by the way is absolutely fantastic

Posted - 03/11/2006 : 15:16:00 Hi Dr. Xin,
Which brand of rechargeable AAA batteries do you recommend? Should I get 800 mAh, 900 mAh, or 1000 mAh rechargeable batteries? I am currently using Duracell AAA alkaline batteries, and my new SuperMacro-III (OPA 637, 2x buffer) sounds absolutely amazing. Thank you! |

Posted - 03/07/2006 : 05:41:19 Hi Dr. Xin, this is my first posting here. I want to start by stating thank you for a great amp, I received my SuperMacro-III Version 6 on January 30, 2006.
It came with the AD8397, now I would like to purchase the new configuration OPA2134 and 1x buffer. However I can not find a way to order just those two parts in your website.
I am not a competent in electrical things but I think I could swap them. By the way I would also like to purchase the larger volume knob you use to put with your amp prior to the new shiny one, and finally I would like to purchase a dummy buffer, mine came with two copper wires in its place.
So to recap I want to purchase: -OPA2134 -1x buffer -Larger style volume knob -Dummy Buffer
Or do you recomend something else? Please let me know how to go about purchasing them.
Thanks

I also use the SM3 with my Ety4S, and find that the AD8397 without buffer sounds very good. Also, the OP227 with the BUF634 sounds very warm and has a nice bass that the Ety's need. My favorite opamp is, however, the OP275. It does not require a buffer.
I think these are all good with the Ety's

Posted - 02/23/2006 : 11:32:42 I am considering the OPA637 and 2x upgrade for use with the Ety-4S but I have heard that this is not a good combination. What would be the optimal configuration to order to drive the ety-4s?
Also, since you do not make a portable DAC, what DAC would you recommend to use with the SuperMacro?
Thanks. |

Posted - 02/12/2006 : 22:42:43 No. Shipping batteries is forbiden to many countires and the total weight will be over 1 pound. If a pckage is over 1 pound, it is hassle. |

Are batteries included when purchasing the SM3 V6? Thanks |

Posted - 02/12/2006 : 17:01:07 dbnh, All earlier Macro-III can swap in OPA627/637 and 2x buf, but compensation must be added. If you guys like to try, try AD823 and 1x buf first (even without compensation).
ega-kou, with OPA637 and 2x, my Macro lasts 2 days (about 48 hours). |

I'm interested in OPA637 and 2x buffer configuration. How long can it work with battery power? |

SuperMacro-III is the only portable amp and under $400 that can deploy these fantastic top-end components. This $50 option is a steal, I don't make any profit from and I'm actually loosing (OPA637 is $18/ea, and 4 buffers are $20). And your amp is still just $400.
That said, the default configuration sounds just as good as anything possible. Right now my personal favorite is AD822(3) for its laid back image, instruments separation and impactness.
So, for those who purchased SuperMacro-3 V6 amps during the Thanksgiving sale, can we simply order the OPA637 (627) and 2x buffer, and install them ourselves? |
