Has anyone else been banned from Head Fi with no warning or explanation?
I just tried to log on to the forums for the first time in a month or so and i just get a message that says "The administrator has banned your IP address".
Is this a mistake or has this happened to others?

What IP address are you using? sometimes I can't get out on my server, I am in China, and I use anonymouse but HeadFi has banned this IP address so I achieve nothing. I would think otherwise it would be a mistake.

Well Jude banned me october last year following me complaining about him deleting posts were I was discussing how another head-fi member had cheated me on a sale of an amp. It turned nasty in my off-forum communication with him and first my account got banned and the he banned all ip addresses (and ranges) I had ever used. This includes the guest network for a major scandinavian hotel chain and the company networks of the danish telecom coorporation and several other larg danish companies effectively blocking many people from using head-fi. I have since tried to get in touch with him but he does not acknowledge any communication of mine. I was even a contributing member in what I would call fairly good standing at least based on my feedback thread. So if you are accessing head-fi thru an ip-range where somebody else has hacked him off you are just and unfourtunate victim like several of my co-workers.

| well, I just tried to bring head fi up on my computer and it tells me that I have no access to the server (error 403 - forbidden)... I think the site may be experiencing some technical errors. |

| PinkFloyd was recently banned. Maybe you are paying the price as explained by jhlbbs above. |

I've had no contact from anyone but I can access the forums again today.
Maybe it was just a technical problem.
Thanks for all your replies guys.

But this bring up an issue about Head-Fi - I have heard quite a few cases where members were banned - without explanation. Sounds that someone there is not very tolerant of different opinions, or criticisms. It is pretty sad to see that this situation seem to continue. I am no victim (yet) but personally I feel this is not a good thing to the biggest head-fi community.
Anyone know why PinkFloyd was banned ? for overly promoting the Solo 2007 ? |

Pinkfloyd was banned because he was immaturely reacting to his recent change of status to members of the trade While i thought the status was a bit unfair, i think his reaction was childish as well |

I was out of town when PinkFloyd was banned and did not see the posts due to lack of computer access. I did find interesting that all of a sudden he was made a "Member of the Trade" without any changes on his way of dealing with fellow Head-Fiers. I also found it intersting that he was changed to a Member of the Trade while many others who sell items on a regular basis were not. I also found it intersting that this all happened after he started criticizing a particular brand.
The facts are: 1)we will never know for a fact what happened, 2)a poster like PinkFloyd who used to help quite a few with his recomendations and insights is banned, 3)all parties lost, 4)as a member of Head-Fi I wonder when my turn will come up to be banned just because I did something that was not "approved by the management". The last one is what does not provide me with a warm fuzzy feeling. |

| Guys this thread should be moved to the general forum as it has nothing to do with Xin's product support. |

Yes, but it would be lost here and most people that come here also go to the Headfi forum. The lack of tolerance and exteme use of banning is unfortunate as it shows a narrow mindedness. I would hope that this type of censorship would be banned. It is like big brother looking over your shoulder all the time.
One thing that must be remembered is the the sponsor comes first. Headfi, just like Audio Asylum is a business and they want to keep it all nice and clean. This makes for a good experience for the sponsors.

I used to really, really like Head-Fi. It's not the same anymore. Not many featured reviews or stickies anymore, not many FAQs for newbies, etc.
I'm grateful to Head-Fi. That's how I learned how to set up my rig, and where I learned everything including about Xin amps.
It just seems like just a free-for-all archived chat-room nowadays, not really a "forum." Doesn't make it bad. I know it's about sponsors and about keeping things neutral. It's kinda like myspace and youtube: just a sprawling space on the Web.
I still check it now and then, mainly cause I'm bored, and in the hopes that I might find something new and interesting from like-minded people.
Fixup used to be really cool too with Xin posting his random musings. But now he is so focused on amps. That's understandable. It's okay though: The "regulars" here at fixup are so generous with sharing all their technical info, helping out newbies, and writing about their experiences with their Xin amps and configurations and helping to keep these cool portable amps evolving to get the best sound.
Though not perfect, the net and sites like these are pretty darn cool and helpful. |
